Typical renewable projects life cycle

Overall experience of the Wysenergy team includes expertise and skills throughout the value chain of windfarm projects :

  • Building more than 2200 MW in France;
  • Participation in the executions of more than 25 sale and acquisition transactions over a period of ten years;
  • Co-development of more than 500 MW of wind power projects in France;
  • Initiating of more than 300 MW green field wind projects in France.

Assets origination greenfield

Our multidisciplinary team works every day at the heart of the territories, in close collaboration with local authorities and a network of recognized partners, to design and originate projects – greenfield projects. This first phase of pre-development and feasibility study allows the creation of a new asset from scratch. This stage includes preliminary studies and information from the relevant documentation, confirming that a site has the characteristics required to set up a renewable power unit and identifying the most significant issues (urban planning compliancy, spot’s access, public easements, environment constraints, preliminary local contacts, lease land agreement, power grid connection, Implementation layout, …) Wysenergy used to handle this stage on its own or in partnership (co-development).

Assets origination repowering

Obtaining new value from old wind farms Dismantling, new construction or continued operation? Many operators will have to ask themselves these questions over the nextfew years. One possibility is repowering, where original turbines are replaced by new, more powerful wind turbines. Due to the advanced technologies, modern wind turbines can generate significantly more electricity, so that a smaller number of turbines is required and the volume of power generated can still be multiplied. In the course of repowering, a completely new project is being planned and the approval procedure is being re-initiated. It is becoming a new brownfield project development. Questions of planning law or social interests, the dismantling of old wind turbines as well as various economic aspects make repowering a very complex task and require a high degree of experience in the project planning of wind farms. All materials from the old plant are recycled (metals, concrete, carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc.) and used in other industrial sectors. To make this process easier, to reduce the delays incurred in this new development and permitting phase, and to reduce the environmental impact of dismantling the old machines, we have developed and patented a new construction process with a leading wind turbine supplier.

Assets development

Once the asset origination validated, we move into the asset development phase.

In accordance with local regulations, detailed studies and administrative procedures are carried out :

  • Measuring campaign in order to identify the wind rose which will allow to define the wind potential of the site which will allow to carry out the economic analysis;
  • Completion of a set of studies to produce the authorisation application file : landscape study, impact study, ecological study, acoustic study, hazard study, wind study in long term, electrical network study;
  • Application for authorisation to operate;
  • Optimising the project to increase efficiency by seeking the highest load factor with latest technology upgrade to reduce the variability of power generation;
  • Upgrade application for a  building permit / operating licence.

On completion of this stage, the feed-in tariff for electricity produced will also have to be obtained :

  • Either, submitting a bid to public call for tenders;
  • Or, signing a corporate PPA. Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), currently seem to be on everyone´s lips. Consumers are becoming more and more aware of the benefits of generating electricity from renewable energy sources. By concluding a long-term purchase agreement, they protect themselves against price fluctuations in the electricity markets.

Wysenergy is involving local stakeholders – local authorities (municipalities, communities of municipalities, departments, regions), residents, landowners and associations – in the development of all our projects.

Wysenergy used to handle this stage on its own or in partnership (co-development).

Construction management

Wysenergy construction team manages the construction sites of wind energy projects, solar energy projects, hydroelectricity projects, stockage energy project, from obtaining permits to the commissioning, also for wind energy projects repowering. We favour using local companies to work on our construction sites and we implement all the necessary measures to minimise the impact of the work on the environment and local residents.

Merge & acquisitions (M&A)

Wysenergy is constantly monitoring the market with the objective of identifying investment opportunities for the Agire I fund. Our involvement covers all phases of negotiations, studies and analyses of assets and then the implementation and structuring of the investment agreement. We work and create partnerships with independent developers offering assets at different levels of maturity.

Operation & maintenance

Wysenergy gets in-house all skills and experience for the operation and maintenance of renewable power units:

  • Management of operation by remote surveillance;
  • Energy metering;
  • Insurance and guarantee settlement;
  • Technical assistance to the service staff of the plant manufacturers in their preventive and curative interventions;
  • On-site breakdown service;
  • Control and examination of installations.

Investing & finance

Investment during the creation and generation phase of new greenfield projects is generally supported directly by Wysenergy, either on its own or in partnership. The financing of the following phases, and in particular the phase of environmental studies and obtaining all the legal authorisations for the deployment of projects, is supported by the AGIRE I fund and managed by Wysenergy. The construction phase of the infrastructures will be supported by the AGIRE I fund in partnership with various banking institutions experimented in this type of investment.

Assets sales

Wysenergy is relying on the investment fund AGIRE I to enable the financing of development, acquisition and industrialisation of renewables energy infrastructure assets. The value creation model of the AGIRE I fund is based on the strategy of selling of assets. Wysenergy holds all the skills and the network to sell renewable energy infrastructure assets on the market.
